A Pediatric Infectious Disease specialist is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases caused by microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses (including HIV and hepatitis), fungi and parasites. They consult with pediatricians on diseases that are complicated or atypical, including

  • Illnesses that are of unclear cause, have prolonged  fever, or are recurrent
  • Respiratory infections

  • Acquired Immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)

MEET OUR DOCTOR

Dr. Deena Sutter works with pediatricians in the management and diagnosis of patients’ pediatric illnesses related to infectious disease. In both inpatient and outpatient settings, she ensures her patients and parents understand reasons for the tests and treatments they receive.  Dr. Sutter is board certified in both pediatric and pediatric infectious disease, and also certified in knowledge of tropical diseases. She launched South Texas Pediatric Infectious Disease following her retirement as Chief, Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease at San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC).
